House of the Art of Dreams:Toltec Wisdom and Creative Expression

TLDR: In the inaugural episode of The House of the Art of Dreams, don Jose Ruiz describes a new artistic direction for sharing Toltec wisdom—one that bridges shamanic training, music, storytelling, and lived experience. Rather than presenting information as doctrine, the House functions as a metaphor for the human being as a creative vessel. Jose's central teaching here is that the body is the house and the dreaming mind is the art gallery within it; true transformation comes not from reading books or attending lectures, but from the living presence of spirit in action. The work is rooted in letting go of what doesn't serve, planting seeds of ancestral knowledge wherever you go, and refusing the escapism that often corrupts spiritual practice.

What Does "The House of the Art of Dreams" Actually Mean?

Don Jose Ruiz opens by clarifying that The House of the Art of Dreams is not merely a poetic name for an event series—it is a living metaphor drawn from Toltec and shamanic understanding. In the Toltec tradition, "la casa" (the house) refers to the physical body, and "the art of dreams" refers to the dreaming mind—the realm of imagination, memory, and creative potential. "The house is my body, is my physical body. And the art of dreams is my dreaming mind," Jose explains. Everything he has learned across decades of spiritual practice, music, and shamanic training now flows through this vessel.

This framing matters because it resets how spiritual teaching gets transmitted. Rather than presenting himself as a guru dispensing final answers, Jose positions himself—and eventually the listener—as a house containing galleries of lived experience. The art isn't in the dogma; it's in how one works with the contradictions, poisons, and gifts that life deposits into that house daily.

Why Did Jose Move Away From His Traditional Teaching Format?

Jose describes having grown comfortable with his established method of presenting Toltec teachings, but comfort itself became a signal that something needed to shift. "As an artist, especially an artist of spirit—of getting the wisdom, cultivating it, going through experiences and going through the hard times again—life continues happening," he says. No matter how much inner work one completes, the external world keeps moving; the practice cannot rest on past accomplishments.

This is where the notion of the artist as spiritual practitioner becomes central. To remain alive in the work, one must continually reinvent the container—not the content, but the vessel through which it pours. For Jose, that reinvention meant stepping into a more collaborative, performance-based, ceremonial approach rather than the lecture format he had mastered. It also meant acknowledging that no teacher can live another person's life for them. "I cannot take action your way or my dad's way or anybody else's way. The only way I know how to take action is the way that I take action," Jose insists.

What Role Does Honesty Play in Spiritual Work?

Across his decades in Toltec shamanism and Hindu spiritual traditions, Jose has observed a recurring pattern: people collect spiritual practices and ceremonies as tools for escape rather than transformation. Shamanic practices, Hindu disciplines, psychology, religion, mystery schools—all of these are what Jose calls "ceremonies to identify the problem." They are valid structures for naming what is stuck. But ceremonies alone are not enough.

"There's nothing more powerful than honesty," Jose states plainly. After the ritual ends, after the blessing is received, the person returns home and must do the work—which is internal, relational, and often unglamorous. Many people, he observes, use spiritual identity itself as a new form of escapism: "Many people didn't want to grow; they use it as a sanctuary for an identity to escapism." The Toltec path, by contrast, demands continuous confrontation with what is true about oneself and one's choices.

How Does Toltec Vision Guide This New Direction?

Jose references the Toltec principle "don't mess up the dream"—a teaching that warns against allowing inspiration and creative impulse to be strangled by doubt, perfectionism, or self-sabotage. When an idea or calling arrives, the instruction is to honor it in action without letting it consume you with anxiety or obsession. "You have inspiration, you have something you want to do—don't let it eat you alive," he says.

The Toltec worldview, as Jose presents it, is fundamentally about recognizing that every human being is both a dreamer and a dream—that consciousness itself is the art, and the waking life is the gallery in which that art manifests. This perspective removes the need for external validation or a specific outcome. The art is in the doing, in the presence, in the integrity of the work itself.

What Is the Significance of Seeds and Ancestral Knowledge?

A recurring metaphor throughout Jose's teaching is that of seeds—specifically, the seeds of wisdom planted by elders and ancestors that one inherits through training. In his meditation, Jose received clarity: "You already got all this information. You already got all the seeds and you have not planted a forest of your own." This marks a turning point from student to practitioner-as-elder: the responsibility shifts from collecting knowledge to stewarding it, to planting it in new soil, to allowing it to grow in forms that may look entirely different from its origin.

Jose has walked two primary paths—Toltec shamanism and Hinduism. He has studied with elders in Peru, Mexico, Teotihuacan, among the Mayan peoples, and in India under his guru. Each path has deposited seeds. The invitation now is not to repeat those paths identically, but to take those seeds "wherever you go and plant them" in his own ground, with his own voice and artistry.

Why Is Sound and Music Central to This Work?

Jose emphasizes that music is not decoration or entertainment in the House of the Art of Dreams—it is a vehicle for direct transmission of vibration. "Music is a vibration. In the universe, in the space, in the infinite, there is no sound; it's vibration," he explains. This distinction is crucial: vibration operates beneath language, beneath the conceptual mind. It speaks directly to the nervous system and the felt body.

When one combines sound with word, the result is art—and art is what survives time. Long after the speaker is gone, the story remains; the song carries the medicine forward. This is why "the presence of spirit in action is more powerful than reading a book, is more powerful than listening to a lecture because it's inspiration, the energy connecting with you." The House of the Art of Dreams, then, is structured as a live ceremony where music, spoken word, and the energetic presence of the practitioners create a field in which transformation can occur.

What Does It Mean to Be Your Own House?

The deeper teaching embedded in the House metaphor is that each listener, each human being, is themselves a house. Your mind is not a pile of thoughts to be fixed; it is a gallery of art where dreams are born—where you generate your reality through choice, attention, and creative will. "They are a house and their mind is a gallery of art where they create their dreams where dreams are born like an antenna," Jose says.

This reframes personal work from therapeutic repair to artistic cultivation. You are not a broken machine waiting to be fixed by an external expert. You are a creator, a house holding both light and shadow, both poison and medicine. The art is in how you work with what is there, in how you let go of what no longer serves, and in how you channel what remains into action that honors both yourself and life.

What Is the Warning Against Spiritual Escapism?

Throughout his teaching, Jose returns to the danger of using spirituality as a hiding place. "The illusion doesn't care what you are. It's going to get you one way or the other," he warns. Whether one identifies as a shaman, a swami, a therapist, or a healer, the human shadow—the aspects of self that resist growth—will find new hiding places if one is not vigilant. The robes change; the game remains the same.

This is why Jose emphasizes that "we're all working for the same boss"—meaning, we all face the same fundamental confrontation with truth and self-deception, regardless of our spiritual credentials. The antidote is continuous honesty, community accountability, and the willingness to do the inner work day after day, in the privacy of your own house, not just in ceremony.

Where to Go from Here

The House of the Art of Dreams represents an invitation to experience wisdom transmission not as a body of doctrine to memorize, but as a living practice rooted in music, story, and the creative courage to claim your own vision. If you resonate with Jose's teaching, engage with it as a seed to plant in your own ground: notice where you are creating art against yourself, where you are using spiritual identity as a hiding place, and where inspiration is waiting for your presence to bring it to life. The work is yours to do. The House is always open.

[0:01] >> Hey,

[0:02] >> we're here.

[0:03] >> We're here.

[0:04] >> You know, it's something magical that's

[0:06] been happening lately. People have been

[0:07] asking me, "What on earth is the house

[0:10] of the art of dreams?"

[0:11] >> Mhm.

[0:12] >> And uh you know, it's a artistic way of

[0:15] saying it in English, but translated in

[0:16] Spanish how I understand it because

[0:19] laasa, the house is my body, is my

[0:23] physical body. And the art of dreams is

[0:27] my dreaming mind. everything I've you

[0:30] know experienced and learned in life and

[0:32] this is why these events are called the

[0:34] house of the art of dreams because I'm

[0:36] about to share um all my books

[0:40] information from all my books u

[0:42] inspiration from music inspiration from

[0:44] life lessons everything that I have

[0:46] gathered all the information all the

[0:47] lives of Don Jose that right now I

[0:50] decided to jump into a different

[0:52] artistic way of presenting in a shamanic

[0:55] tradition because you know I got

[0:57] comfortable in doing what I used to do.

[1:00] But I needed to challenge myself because

[1:02] you know as an artist especially an

[1:05] artist of spirit of getting the wisdom

[1:07] cultivating you know going through

[1:08] experiences going through the hard times

[1:10] again because no matter no matter all

[1:12] your work that you've done no matter all

[1:14] the process that one has done life

[1:16] continues happening. So, it's about

[1:20] having the arts in your own um way of of

[1:25] taking action because, you know, I

[1:27] cannot take action your way or my dad's

[1:29] way or anybody else's way. The only way

[1:30] I know how to take action is the way

[1:32] that I take action to tackle whatever I

[1:36] need to tackle because no one else is

[1:37] going to know. I can gossip about myself

[1:40] to people and they only get like 40% 30%

[1:43] and the rest of it is, you know,

[1:45] something else. But uh when we talk to

[1:48] ourselves um everything we want to let

[1:51] go of everything we want to grow only we

[1:54] know we know what's stopping us and to

[1:57] realizing that if we are creating art

[1:59] that's going against us to have that

[2:01] awareness because many people don't have

[2:03] that awareness like I didn't have that

[2:04] awareness even in shamanism I was

[2:07] sharing shamanism and people learning it

[2:09] that they didn't want to grow they use

[2:11] it as a sanctuary for an identity to

[2:14] escapism

[2:16] And then I I saw the whole world and you

[2:18] know the whole world you know is is a

[2:20] chamat process or a swami process that's

[2:23] my training I don't know any other

[2:25] training but that's my training but um

[2:27] but when I begin seeing the the learning

[2:30] of life and letting go it could be

[2:31] psychology in a college and double in in

[2:35] NA or any other religion or mystery

[2:37] school or wisdom or or you know people

[2:40] who do any kind of ceremony to tackle

[2:42] this but there's nothing more powerful

[2:45] ful than honesty. All of these are

[2:47] ceremonies to to identify the problem.

[2:50] And yes, we make a beautiful powerful

[2:52] ceremony, but what's going to happen the

[2:53] next day? You have to continue working

[2:56] in your home.

[2:57] >> And that's why when we cultivate the art

[2:59] of dreams, the way that we present, we

[3:02] create magic because we're using the

[3:04] word not as a concrete medicine, but as

[3:09] an explanation of doing so. So I'm very

[3:12] excited to um well go on tour and share

[3:17] with this because I tell you how this

[3:18] began. I was going to go to this um to

[3:22] India and to Mexico and then something

[3:25] happened that I didn't go and you know I

[3:28] felt bummed that I couldn't go but then

[3:29] I in my in one of my meditations I said

[3:32] just say that's how I call myself now in

[3:34] my art of dreams is my expression

[3:37] because you know um but the memories of

[3:40] Don Jose the memories of Kaleshuar that

[3:42] I that's my spiritual name in India and

[3:44] my spiritual name in in in Toltech I

[3:48] saying you know you you You already got

[3:49] all this information. You already got

[3:51] all the seeds and you have not planted a

[3:53] forest of your own. And it comes a

[3:56] moment in our life in our training in

[3:57] shamanic or or a swami path. You know

[4:01] that we have to get the seeds of our

[4:03] elders that we learn to recognize that

[4:07] that was a structure of letting go like

[4:09] a rattlesnake, letting go of things that

[4:10] we didn't go. But once you confront the

[4:13] infinite, you're perfect in a way of

[4:16] living. And I don't mean perfect as a

[4:18] human or what perfection it is. No, you

[4:21] know that you're just nature, you're

[4:22] just a living being that you have the

[4:24] memories of the sinner of the of the

[4:26] saint or whatever you want to name it.

[4:28] When I mean saint and sinners, I mean

[4:30] people who go against themsel and

[4:31] against life and the people who support

[4:33] life and support themselves. So words

[4:36] are very tricky. That's why it's a it's

[4:39] an art and many people don't understand

[4:42] their own words. They invoke forces like

[4:44] Takifan says that they will not ever

[4:46] understand because they look for

[4:48] sanctuary.

[4:49] >> But in this being said, you know, I have

[4:52] now the seeds of everything that I've

[4:54] learned. And if I'm going to do a

[4:56] ceremony in Tatiwakan or a ceremony in

[4:59] India or a download,

[5:01] the in meditation, the art of the house

[5:05] of dreams of Jose says take those seeds

[5:08] wherever you go and plant them. the soul

[5:10] ground is ready and it's not only me

[5:13] doing the work. is whoever's going to

[5:15] come and be part of this show. And you

[5:17] know, I'm very happy that you and uh and

[5:20] Dona Carla and uh and Don Luis uh are

[5:23] joining me in this beautiful ceremony

[5:26] because this is a beautiful dream that

[5:27] we have cultivated as tots and totions

[5:31] is u let's say it's an art form. It's a

[5:37] masterpiece of a form of art and uh it's

[5:40] not songs, it's not ballads, it's not

[5:42] you know even though it's music and

[5:44] speaking word it's just art. It's just

[5:47] like a painting and this is meant to

[5:49] transform lives. So in the house of

[5:52] dreams is where we all going to express

[5:54] ourself and you know be all the

[5:57] different versions that we were. So I'm

[6:00] very happy that in this journey I'm

[6:02] going to share my lessons that I learned

[6:04] from India and lessons that I learned

[6:06] from the shamans, from Peru, from

[6:09] Americas, from Tatiwakan, from the

[6:11] Mayans, uh from from the from Africas

[6:14] and also the beautiful connection of

[6:16] seeds that you know that we go traveling

[6:18] around the world like Egypt you know is

[6:20] Egypt I'm very touched with is not my is

[6:23] not my tribe what I mean by my tribe is

[6:25] not my path you know I have two paths in

[6:27] my life it's token and Hinduism and

[6:31] those are the messages that changed my

[6:33] life but then I entered another world

[6:36] and that's the world of Jose

[6:39] the one who was possessed by its poison

[6:42] and in all those journeys I clean my

[6:45] poison and new poison came in and all

[6:48] those years I cultivated ways of art to

[6:51] deal with each poison that came in my

[6:53] life now I can'tify poison without the

[6:56] story because it's a vibration

[6:59] And this is why music is very important

[7:01] because no you know music is a vibration

[7:03] just in the universe in the space in the

[7:05] infinite there is no sound it's

[7:08] vibration. That's why the power of of

[7:13] song and sounds as human is so powerful.

[7:16] And when we begin having this sound and

[7:18] putting it into words, we begin to, you

[7:21] know, create art because one day we're

[7:23] not going to be here. But what's going

[7:25] to be here are stories like the stories

[7:27] of our elders, how they overcome their

[7:29] dream. But the thing about these times

[7:32] and the past ones is that people become

[7:34] obsessed and fanatic is escapism. That's

[7:36] why many people give a bad name to

[7:39] swamies and to shamans because you know

[7:41] there's a lot of people who look for

[7:42] sanctuary thinking with that title

[7:45] they're going to escape their thing. The

[7:46] thing is that the illusion doesn't care

[7:48] what you are. It's going to get you one

[7:51] way or the other. So that's why I said

[7:53] we're all working for the for the same

[7:54] boss. But in these new path that we're

[7:58] doing for the house of the art of dreams

[8:00] is about letting everybody know that

[8:03] they are a house and their mind is a

[8:06] gallery of art where they create their

[8:09] dreams where dreams are born like an

[8:11] antenna. And the beautiful thing about

[8:13] that I love about tote visions is don't

[8:15] mess up the dream. Don't mess up the

[8:18] dream. You have inspiration you have

[8:20] something you want to do it. Don't let

[8:22] it eat you alive. And that's why the

[8:26] presence of spirit in action is more

[8:30] powerful than reading a book, is more

[8:33] powerful than listening to a lecture

[8:35] because it's inspiration, the energy

[8:39] connecting with you. And in that moment,

[8:42] like a music concert or or a movie you

[8:44] watch or something you see from family

[8:46] and friends or a loved one or someone

[8:48] you admire, when you see someone's

[8:49] transformation or or story of life, it

[8:52] inspires you to do what? To make art

[8:56] with your life to get yourself out of a

[8:58] living space or create something new.

[9:02] Because once you are in a path of

[9:05] self-service and honest self-service, it

[9:08] comes the question, what am I going to

[9:09] do now? What am I going to create now?

[9:12] And this is the beautiful thing about

[9:16] being present like if we're going to

[9:17] live forever like my father says. And

[9:20] one of the assignments that he gave to

[9:21] us, you know, I I gave it to you as

[9:24] well, is to live every day like it's our

[9:26] last day. So when we begin living this

[9:29] way, something magical begins happening.

[9:32] We want to tolerate things that go

[9:34] against us. We want to tolerate poison

[9:36] from many people. We're not going to

[9:37] judge them. just not that dream is not

[9:39] for us. They're in a different vibration

[9:42] and they're not even really knowing when

[9:43] they're attaching to their suffering or

[9:46] they're abusing, you know, a sacred

[9:48] tradition

[9:50] because they're in pain. Like I was in

[9:52] pain. But once I begin having my own

[9:55] medicine with my own words in the art of

[9:56] the house of dreams of Jose, I begin to

[9:59] understand the world respecting it.

[10:02] That's their dream. I have only one

[10:05] responsibility and it's my life. So if

[10:08] I'm going to have one life to one day to

[10:10] live, I'm going to do everything that I

[10:12] want to experience. So with this being

[10:15] said, this is when I, you know, I'm

[10:17] never going to stop being a shaman or

[10:19] the Swami order. But I am now in a point

[10:25] that I don't need those identities to

[10:27] know what I am. I'm life. I'm energy.

[10:31] I'm just a light like a star that come

[10:35] into this world just in a blink of time

[10:38] to experience it. And of course when I

[10:41] arrived I lost myself like any other

[10:43] ancestor before me. And the trick it is

[10:46] to find ourselves not who we are, what

[10:49] we be, but simply knowing that we're

[10:53] just life with a mirror of everything we

[10:56] have, you know, seen that domesticated

[10:58] us. So we begin being free. We respect

[11:01] any relationship that we're going to be

[11:04] in now and tomorrow because of the past

[11:07] relationship that we had before. So this

[11:09] is a beautiful thing that I am very

[11:11] happy to to be part of.

[11:15] >> You know when you first told me about

[11:16] the title the house or the art of dreams

[11:18] at first I was like what what does that

[11:19] mean exactly? It's just like a mouthful.

[11:21] It's like you're trying to say so much,

[11:24] you know, and I'm sure you got the same

[11:26] advice from other people, but it's it's

[11:28] what you wanted to do. And

[11:32] when I think about what that title

[11:34] means, it's exactly what you were

[11:35] talking about. There's a house and

[11:38] inside that house there's creations of

[11:41] dreams.

[11:43] So let's say uh you go in one city and

[11:48] that city is going to experience all the

[11:49] dreams that come out that particular

[11:51] day. But you're the house, we're the

[11:54] house, whoever goes with you, it's just

[11:57] it's like a sanctuary of dreams.

[12:00] And um it's beautiful.

[12:04] And uh

[12:06] so I'm grateful that I get a chance to

[12:09] um

[12:11] to share with you. Mhm.

[12:13] >> You know, sometimes I wonder what are we

[12:15] doing here? You know, it's your show.

[12:18] You know, you don't need anyone to help

[12:19] you. So, you know, you can go on stage

[12:21] and just be yourself and do your thing.

[12:23] But it's grateful to

[12:24] >> to be part of this beautiful creation.

[12:27] >> And here's the thing. Sorry to interrupt

[12:28] you in this moment, but it's not my

[12:30] show. You know the for a shaman or a

[12:34] swami to hit a certain point is to not

[12:38] be alone to find a tribe who lived the

[12:41] their own way. There's no one higher or

[12:43] lower and in this tradition they always

[12:46] say there's a teacher and apprentice but

[12:49] you know the elders are always going to

[12:50] be elders because of the experience they

[12:51] had. But honestly, we all are working

[12:55] through the same boss and we all deal

[12:57] with certain things. And when you get

[12:59] like um different points of an organism

[13:03] like the heart, the liver, you name it,

[13:06] the body when you get it together, it

[13:07] creates one one body. So it's one

[13:10] energetically form and uh and this is

[13:13] created by all of us because everything

[13:15] is coming in the same form. And when we

[13:18] were in Penny River 2001 or two, can't

[13:22] remember memory. Wi-Fi is getting slow

[13:23] in my head because of age, but I

[13:25] remember just looking into your eyes and

[13:29] saying, "I know you for a long time."

[13:32] And I just met you, you know, like two

[13:34] years before, but you know, we all have

[13:36] different lives where we we come in,

[13:38] have dinner, and we all go with all the

[13:40] rest of the my dad's apprentices and

[13:41] dreamers. But in that moment, we were in

[13:43] Penny River in Tennessee and um and I

[13:47] remember we being there and the the

[13:49] river was passing by. I said, "No, we're

[13:51] going to do something together." And and

[13:54] I knew it not because of story. It's

[13:56] because I felt it. So in little ways

[13:59] this dream of collectiveness of you, me,

[14:02] Carla, Luis, and whoever's going to join

[14:04] us. It's a collective of the paths that

[14:07] already are in movement. We're just

[14:10] showing up and experiencing it.

[14:13] >> So, I'm very happy because you have

[14:15] wisdom that I don't have. Carla has

[14:17] wisdom that I don't have. And Lisa has

[14:18] wisdom that I don't have. And I have

[14:20] wisdom that you guys don't have. But

[14:22] together, we create this wisdom. And

[14:24] it's about friendship.

[14:26] >> And this is one of the things that in

[14:28] spirituality, especially spiritual

[14:30] leaders forget. We're here for

[14:32] friendship.

[14:33] >> We're not here to tell people what to

[14:34] do, how to live life,

[14:36] >> right? We're here to remind them life is

[14:38] short and this is what we're doing.

[14:40] >> Yeah.

[14:41] >> And every time we hang out, it's just

[14:42] magic, you know, especially to take

[14:44] visions. We get together and just like

[14:47] manifest music and song. It's because

[14:49] it's not that we sat down and grout it

[14:51] and, you know, prepared it and, you

[14:53] know, all you know, structured. No, we

[14:55] came with open hearts to create one

[14:56] another.

[14:57] >> And this is exactly what we're going to

[14:58] do on stage.

[14:59] >> Yeah.

[15:00] >> Yeah. It's a beautiful thing.

[15:04] You know, I remember that Penny River so

[15:06] well and it was like walking up to you,

[15:08] I just out of anyone, I just wanted to

[15:11] share what I was experiencing with you.

[15:13] And I felt like you knew exactly what I

[15:15] was experiencing and we both like were

[15:17] smiling because we both were like, "Yes,

[15:20] like uh this is what life's all about.

[15:23] It's about enjoying that friendship

[15:25] because I I felt like I felt like a

[15:28] flower that was being fed by the sun and

[15:31] I felt like the sun that was feeding a

[15:33] flower.

[15:34] >> And to me, that's friendship. It's it's

[15:37] uh giving someone the permission just to

[15:40] be themsel and be in awe of whatever

[15:42] they create and simultaneously

[15:45] being free to create and express

[15:48] whatever I am experiencing in that

[15:50] moment knowing that you're there to be a

[15:53] witness to that creation as well.

[15:55] >> Yes.

[15:56] >> And it's a beautiful friendship

[15:59] and uh to take that on the road and just

[16:01] see what happens. It's it is it's magic

[16:03] on the road

[16:03] >> and it's totally magic and you know like

[16:05] um I I am very touched and happy because

[16:07] I've been transforming my own life you

[16:09] know in my in my spiritual path I'm now

[16:12] in the Shiva shakti that's in Hinduism

[16:16] and in shamanic is to spirit and I'm in

[16:20] that vibration right now and I think I'm

[16:22] going to die in this vibration because

[16:24] I'm at home

[16:25] >> I'm just life but I I am so happy and

[16:30] very you know in a safe space with you

[16:34] uh Carla and Luis and I met as well um

[16:37] all of you supported you know without

[16:39] even speaking about it I begin using

[16:42] makeup I begin you know feminizing

[16:43] myself and um and embracing the the male

[16:46] and the female into one and you all of

[16:49] you were so supportive of it that you

[16:52] know nothing needed to be spoken of it

[16:54] was just happening so beautifully and

[16:56] that's what friendship and tribute is we

[16:59] don't see race, skin, or what we look

[17:02] like or gender. We're just here the

[17:05] harmony of humanity of, you know, being

[17:08] kind, respecting one another, loving one

[17:10] another. And in this form of being when

[17:13] the machismo ends and you embrace divine

[17:15] mother and and the and the machista

[17:19] comes back to melt down everything that

[17:21] is learned and that male energy comes

[17:23] back to serve divine mother because

[17:25] divine mother every female is the portal

[17:28] of the infinite into life. And in

[17:30] totakan my ancestors they're all support

[17:33] divine mother you know it's like the

[17:36] bees and the ants they support the

[17:39] queen. So when Totiwakan was in the

[17:41] powerful um generations you know when

[17:44] there was an at the top power it was

[17:46] ruled by women and also in Hinduism the

[17:49] everything is about divine mother and

[17:52] everything is just you know to being

[17:55] grateful and the curse that happened in

[17:58] humanity was machismo

[18:01] and that was the biggest mask and

[18:03] because of this people got wounds people

[18:07] take it personal they have hatred it

[18:10] even you can see it right now the world

[18:11] as it is it's angry it's wants to hurt

[18:14] one another could you imagine the this

[18:18] hand hurting this face this is what's

[18:20] happening with humanity so when the

[18:23] higher vibration of a male energy and a

[18:26] female energy become the perfect

[18:28] equilibrium with all realities is

[18:30] because there's peace being made

[18:32] >> so if one everybody embraces this in

[18:36] life I'm not saying that they have to be

[18:39] a certain way or pick a certain gender.

[18:41] No, I don't I'm not saying anything like

[18:42] that. I mean about respecting to find

[18:45] the perfect equilibrium to make peace in

[18:47] this world knowing that everything is

[18:48] okay. And the only thing that will have

[18:51] a butt is the wounds because I had a lot

[18:54] of wounds that didn't permit me just to

[18:56] open my heart and express because there

[18:58] was a big judge because when I just open

[19:01] up to this new path of spirituality you

[19:04] know the only judge was myself like I

[19:07] say the tribe supported me my family

[19:10] supported me you know people who come

[19:12] they supported me and people who are

[19:15] mean to me or put me down has nothing to

[19:17] do with me it's with them because of the

[19:19] hate. that exists in this world. So with

[19:22] having the courage of just being

[19:24] yourself

[19:26] is like Mama Kali

[19:31] is like a donut scene coming stepping on

[19:35] the demon enjoying the wrath of a

[19:38] hurricane

[19:40] >> that no one's going to hurt my human, no

[19:43] one's going to hurt my children. No

[19:45] one's going to hurt my family. No one's

[19:47] going to hurt my friends. No one's gonna

[19:49] hurt my animals. No one's gonna hurt my

[19:51] forest. In that moment, we begin having

[19:53] respect because what happening in this

[19:56] world right now is the greed

[19:59] and also trying to be happy for what

[20:01] we're not is part of a greed because

[20:03] bwam begins collecting things thinking

[20:05] that we'll be happy and that is the

[20:07] sanctuary that happens in shamanism. If

[20:10] I only have the title, if I only have a

[20:12] spiritual name, if I only get initiated,

[20:14] if I only have a partner who is like a

[20:16] higher vibration, I will be okay. Is

[20:19] looking for validation for the outside.

[20:22] But when you find validation from the

[20:23] inside, you find your true friends

[20:26] because they support you

[20:27] >> because you support yourself. And if

[20:30] it's one day to live, you have no time

[20:32] to waste.

[20:34] So if we don't judge yourself, nobody

[20:36] else can judge us. And the house of the

[20:38] art of dreams is based on respect.

[20:42] >> Yeah. You know, it's a message that,

[20:46] you know, you you feel right away those

[20:48] people that are interested in that kind

[20:50] of message and you feel right away those

[20:52] that are not because you can see the

[20:54] world right now and the way that the

[20:56] world works is that a lot of people are

[20:58] not looking for that message. A lot of

[21:00] people are looking for the opposite.

[21:01] They're looking for uh how to make more

[21:04] money, how to make more success, how to

[21:06] accumulate more things.

[21:08] But I can only speak for myself. Ever

[21:10] since I was born, I was attracted to uh

[21:14] the sensation of what it feels like just

[21:16] to be free in myself, whatever that

[21:19] means. And most of the time, it's

[21:21] exactly what you were describing, what

[21:23] it feels like just to love. what it

[21:25] feels like to love your own body, to

[21:28] love your own mind, to love everything

[21:30] that you say, everything that you do, to

[21:33] make everything that you do just a work

[21:35] of art.

[21:36] >> Yes.

[21:36] >> And to not judge your work of art, to

[21:39] not be looking for other people to tell

[21:41] you, am I doing it right? Am I doing it

[21:43] wrong? How can I do it better? Because

[21:45] the moment you start asking everyone

[21:46] else for advice, you're not making

[21:48] decisions for yourself. You're allowing

[21:50] other people to tell you what good art

[21:52] is, what a good life is, what it means

[21:55] to be successful.

[21:57] Nobody knows. Everyone's, you know,

[21:59] trying to figure it out their own way

[22:01] based on what they were taught and told

[22:03] by someone else who's no idea how to

[22:06] figure it out. And so there's no road

[22:09] map. We have to create our own trust in

[22:14] figuring out what works for us and be

[22:16] sincere about it. And that's what I love

[22:19] about, you know, when you became vegan,

[22:21] you weren't trying to convert anyone

[22:23] else to be vegan. We go to restaurants

[22:25] and you order vegan food and everyone or

[22:27] orders meat and there's so much respect

[22:29] for the way other people live their

[22:31] lives and it's just mutual respect. It's

[22:34] just friendship and sometimes we all

[22:36] order vegan food and we like it and it's

[22:38] fun. But to see how you

[22:43] treat yourself and how you express

[22:45] yourself and how you're loyal to

[22:50] the sincerity just to be yourself and to

[22:53] witness that and respect that. It's uh

[22:56] inspiring

[22:58] >> and everyone has their own way of okay,

[23:00] how do you want to express yourself? How

[23:01] do you want to dress? How do you want to

[23:03] talk? You know, it's everyone's an

[23:06] artist and you choose how you want to

[23:08] express yourself.

[23:10] And uh you know I can I can say I can

[23:13] speak for many people in this world.

[23:15] It's scary sometimes to take the risk

[23:18] just to express yourself just the way

[23:20] you are because we open oursel up to

[23:23] judgment. But at the same time when we

[23:26] overcome our own inner judge

[23:29] then we no longer judge oursel then

[23:31] other people's judgments it doesn't

[23:32] matter. You used to talk about this all

[23:33] the time.

[23:35] It's like uh it's like actors go out on

[23:39] on roles and they get uh turned down so

[23:41] many times that they just get used to

[23:43] the um rejection process that it's just

[23:45] part of life. It's not personal.

[23:48] >> Yes,

[23:48] >> there's someone else that they're

[23:49] looking at. It's not about you. And you

[23:52] get used to okay, the world is taught to

[23:55] judge. It's not personal. It's just the

[23:58] way the dream works.

[24:00] >> This is about uh wanting to control.

[24:02] >> Mhm. And there's nothing to control in

[24:04] this life. It's about surrender. And

[24:07] when we surrender, we're not pushing our

[24:10] dreams into somebody else to prove

[24:12] ourselves that we're right.

[24:13] >> You know, there's something beautiful

[24:14] that um brother Amed, a fellow Totian

[24:19] for everybody who knows Amet is a fellow

[24:21] is a band of the band. And uh he was

[24:23] sharing a beautiful story with me. It

[24:25] was his son. He wanted a beautiful bird,

[24:28] you know, he wanted a bird. And and he

[24:31] said, "Well, you have all the birds in

[24:33] the world. They're all are yours, you

[24:35] know. All the worlds that are free are

[24:37] yours. You know, no, but I want a bird.

[24:38] I want a you know, bird having the

[24:40] house." And why do you want to put a

[24:42] little bird in a cage? Why do you want

[24:45] to put where you know it's supposed to

[24:47] be free? Once you cut flowers from a

[24:49] garden, they're dead. They're not going

[24:51] to blossom the same way. You have to let

[24:52] them be free as well. and he was giving

[24:55] me this beautiful um advice and lesson

[24:58] about life saying, you know, humanity

[25:02] wants to put a bird in the cage because

[25:05] they're putting themselves in a cage

[25:08] because we're domesticated to live that

[25:10] way. And to control somebody, we want

[25:13] them to be in our cage. And sooner or

[25:16] later, that is a hell. That is a prison.

[25:20] We're meant to be free, love freely. And

[25:23] you know some dreams are not for us. We

[25:25] don't have to beg or say it out loud. We

[25:27] just understanding, respect and we move

[25:29] on. But nothing belongs to us. Just like

[25:33] the other day I was in the airport, the

[25:35] plane was delayed. People were getting

[25:37] upset that the little girls you know who

[25:39] were working the young the young women I

[25:41] mean that were working in the in the

[25:43] counter and you know they have no

[25:45] control of the plane. They have no

[25:47] control of the pilot. They have no

[25:48] control of the airport. They're just

[25:50] following orders and people are throwing

[25:52] their poison because they want to

[25:54] control their flights. But in the

[25:57] airport, you don't control anything.

[25:59] Even when you go with your IDs and stuff

[26:01] like that, you are, you know, you're

[26:05] just there to take a flight, but you

[26:07] cannot control if the weather's bad. And

[26:10] this is the same thing about life. Why

[26:12] should we get upset when things are not

[26:13] going our way? Sometimes when things are

[26:16] not going our way, it's a direction that

[26:18] we hit a wall to turn left or right or

[26:21] backwards, but we continue on moving for

[26:24] a dream that is for us. That's why

[26:26] following inspiration is the most

[26:28] beautiful thing. But if we put ourselves

[26:30] in a cage like Amed was telling his

[26:32] baby, we will never follow inspiration

[26:35] because let's say we sacrifice our

[26:38] inspiration and then we begin eating

[26:40] ourselves our life. Then the art

[26:44] gets so buried and it hurts

[26:46] >> that we begin being angry

[26:49] and telling people how to live,

[26:52] you know. And I see many people who are,

[26:55] you know,

[26:58] not happy in their life, using veganism,

[27:01] using spirituality, using all the other

[27:04] things as an excuse to be mad and put

[27:08] poison to somebody else.

[27:09] >> Yeah. But uh when you respect like I

[27:12] say, you know, I I make food for my dad.

[27:15] I've made food for my mom. I made food,

[27:17] you know, if they have a I know how to

[27:18] cook all that food that my grandmother

[27:20] taught me to cook because I know how to

[27:21] cook seafood. I know to cook all of

[27:23] that. I don't like it anymore because

[27:25] I've evolved in my own personal dream.

[27:28] But there's people who love still that.

[27:30] And people that I love, I love making

[27:32] something for them. As the same way as

[27:35] gratitude and generosity,

[27:38] you um and the rest of the family and

[27:40] friends, you join me for a vegan

[27:42] restaurant. And some people in my life

[27:46] have turned completely vegetarian

[27:49] because of the respect because it came

[27:51] from their own choices because it's

[27:54] inspiring.

[27:55] >> Like I got inspired to live a certain

[27:57] way by one of my favorite singers,

[27:59] Stephen Morrisy. And you know it

[28:01] inspires me so much. He showed a video

[28:04] that I people looked away but I didn't

[28:06] want to look away because I see the way

[28:09] they treat animals the same way that

[28:11] life treats human the human treats

[28:13] human. The moment that we begin changing

[28:16] that way of life everything begins being

[28:19] even in an energetic form. It it it

[28:22] cleanses you

[28:24] uh not in the physical body but

[28:26] consciously because there is no guilt

[28:29] anymore. your clean consciousness.

[28:32] >> So the Egyptians always say in order to

[28:34] enter heaven your heart must be light as

[28:36] a feather. If your heart is not light as

[28:38] a feather you may never enter heaven.

[28:40] And it's not about a feather you know

[28:42] it's about how clean is your

[28:44] consciousness. How is your guilt? How is

[28:46] your shame? How are the acts that you

[28:48] do? So you know people who are close to

[28:51] me they know I don't lie. If they're

[28:53] going to ask me something,

[28:55] they better be aware that I'm going to

[28:57] tell them the truth

[28:59] >> about myself or what I my point of view.

[29:02] But I reserve my point of view because

[29:04] it's not being asked. So I keep it to

[29:07] myself.

[29:08] >> But if someone ask me, I'm not going to

[29:11] lie. I have my principles.

[29:15] And it's because I respect the house of

[29:18] the art of dreams of Jose. And for me,

[29:21] Don Jose died. Why? Because Don Jose for

[29:26] me is a character that I was that helped

[29:28] me leave the addiction of suffering

[29:31] behind.

[29:33] There was that part of me, Elo, Jose,

[29:36] who was mist of suffering.

[29:40] But Don Jose, it was the step to let

[29:44] that go. that I couldn't beat Don Jose

[29:47] for the rest of the life because after

[29:48] all the training

[29:50] I'm not gonna stay in sanctafety

[29:53] I'm gonna do what I work all my life for

[29:56] to live in person of freedom and to

[29:58] express myself how I want to express

[30:01] myself and be organically and

[30:03] authentically and that's why I cannot

[30:05] lie to myself and if I lie to somebody

[30:09] else I'm lying to myself

[30:11] you know there's something powerful that

[30:13] my father always said to us and said it

[30:16] to they said it to you too because I

[30:17] know it. It says I'm responsible for

[30:19] what I say.

[30:20] >> I'm not responsible for what you listen.

[30:24] And that's powerful. And it gives you

[30:26] freedom to not control.

[30:29] >> Well, it gives you responsibility for

[30:31] what you say.

[30:32] >> Mhm.

[30:32] >> Because if you if you agree that okay,

[30:36] I'm not responsible for what you hear.

[30:39] you agree to take the responsibility to

[30:41] always be clear on your side that you're

[30:43] not saying something intentionally

[30:45] distorting or you're very clear with

[30:48] your message. You're very clear with how

[30:50] you express yourself and then that gives

[30:52] you the clear conscience that they they

[30:55] can do whatever they want with that

[30:56] information.

[30:57] >> Yes.

[30:57] >> But I know that the information I'm

[30:59] giving is true, sincere, and it's true

[31:03] for me and as clear as can be. And it's

[31:06] it it comes back to the agreements and

[31:08] being impeccable with your word.

[31:09] >> Yes.

[31:10] >> It's a way of life and it's not about

[31:13] being uh openly honest like you were

[31:15] saying. You hold your truth until

[31:17] someone asks. It's not our place to just

[31:19] tell everyone what you see because what

[31:22] people see is it's just a point of view.

[31:24] It may be true for you. It doesn't mean

[31:26] it's true for someone else. And when we

[31:28] uh sort of unsolicited give people

[31:32] advice about their life, it's not always

[31:34] helpful. and we might see something that

[31:37] might not be true for them. Am I making

[31:40] sense?

[31:40] >> Totally.

[31:41] >> And um so I love I it's like

[31:46] taking the responsibility first with

[31:49] oursel just to be honest. Many times we

[31:52] don't want to be honest with oursel.

[31:54] There's stuff we don't want to look at.

[31:55] But we have to look at everything

[31:57] otherwise like you said we never have

[32:00] the experience of a clean conscious.

[32:02] >> Yes. And sometimes you know we want to

[32:04] experience something that we already

[32:05] tried but we try with awareness. Let's

[32:07] say if this is different

[32:09] >> but now we don't go as victim right

[32:10] >> or as a beggar or or a controller or you

[32:13] know we just go with open heart and we

[32:16] go and taste that dream and then we find

[32:18] out oh you know this dream is really not

[32:21] for me. I gave it another shot but it's

[32:23] not for me.

[32:23] >> Totally.

[32:24] >> Because you know people grow and people

[32:27] do not know how to grow. People do not

[32:30] know how to let love grow because of

[32:32] possession, because of fear of being

[32:34] alone. But honestly, we're always alone.

[32:36] >> Yeah.

[32:37] >> We're born alone. We live alone. And we

[32:38] die alone like my father teaches. And um

[32:41] we begin realizing that every day we're

[32:44] someone new. Every day we shed the skin

[32:47] like a snake and let that dream go. And

[32:50] I remember when I shed my skin, I let

[32:53] the dream go, but I didn't want to let

[32:54] go

[32:55] >> because I was identified by my

[32:58] victimization.

[33:01] >> And that character doesn't exist

[33:02] anymore.

[33:03] >> How did how did you do it? How did you

[33:05] let go? Like what's what's that process

[33:08] for you? How did you do it?

[33:09] >> I found out that I was the love of my

[33:11] life. That this physical body that

[33:14] divine that is divine mother's physical

[33:16] body is part of the earth. It's not

[33:18] mine. I'm just energy light inside this

[33:20] body. When I go, it's going to drop back

[33:23] to the earth.

[33:24] >> So I find out how I treat this physical

[33:27] body is how I'm treating divine mother.

[33:29] Many people say that they love divine

[33:31] mother. They put candles, they put this,

[33:32] but they treat themselves like hell.

[33:35] They put gives keep themselves in a

[33:37] relationship

[33:38] and sometimes sad. They avoid a

[33:41] beautiful relationship to support the

[33:44] dream of hell, supporting the

[33:46] victimization and not letting grow.

[33:50] You know, when I make the act of not

[33:52] drinking and doing crystal meth anymore

[33:54] in my life, I didn't want to put that

[33:56] poison back inside my Jose

[33:59] because I evolved that that physical

[34:02] body.

[34:03] It is mother earth.

[34:06] So the moment I begin changing that

[34:09] aspect, my willpower became so strong.

[34:12] It was real against temptation all the

[34:14] time. And that's why I said that in

[34:15] totle

[34:18] learn how we treat our physical body,

[34:22] the love of our life. And then when we

[34:24] begin living this way, we find some who

[34:27] is the love of their life. And we share

[34:28] life with them. We don't control them.

[34:31] We're like the birds flying in our own

[34:33] dream. like the flowers just expressing

[34:36] our own beautyful aroma.

[34:39] We're just beauty.

[34:41] And how many times people say, "I'm not

[34:43] beautiful. I'm not beauty. I cannot do

[34:46] it. I cannot do this to myself." It

[34:49] takes time. And believe me, to be a

[34:52] complete cannibore,

[34:54] being so unhealthy,

[34:57] to let go

[35:00] and begin being vegan,

[35:04] on learning how to be carnivore, it was

[35:06] willpower to the max. But I knew that

[35:09] I've done it before. Living crystal me,

[35:13] leaving alcohol,

[35:15] leaving machismo.

[35:17] I've done it before. So when you

[35:21] overcome an obstacle for the love of

[35:22] your life, it doesn't matter the

[35:24] illusion, the story, it's the same act

[35:27] of power. And this same act of power is

[35:29] what we do in ceremony. Like in the

[35:32] past, I I needed to go to a mountain,

[35:34] open my arms to do this. Now I can make

[35:36] that ceremony without leaving my home.

[35:39] >> I can teleport myself into other places.

[35:44] And I don't mean this physical body, but

[35:45] my energetically because I'm connected

[35:47] to everything. Like I can close my eyes.

[35:50] I can be walking in Teao. I can close my

[35:53] eyes. I can be in the town of Cheery.

[35:56] I can close my eyes. I can be in this

[35:58] amazing beautiful concert, you know,

[36:00] hearing, you know, the songs that I

[36:02] love.

[36:03] It's about transporting myself

[36:06] with the essence. And when I do that,

[36:11] sooner or later, the people that I was

[36:13] thinking about call me out of the blue

[36:16] or they feel me. It's not that I'm

[36:18] putting my intent and walking there

[36:19] there. No, I'm connecting. I'm

[36:22] connecting to life and I am life. That's

[36:26] why sometimes ask me what are you? What

[36:29] are you? What what how you identify

[36:30] yourself? I go I'm just life.

[36:33] >> I'm just a living being.

[36:36] I don't believe in a character anymore.

[36:39] But I use it. So right now I'm having

[36:41] fun with just say why I tell you why.

[36:44] It's because that's what my stepmother

[36:46] Mama Gaia gave me.

[36:49] And me saying that name, I can hear her

[36:52] blessing me every day in my life.

[36:55] Everybody that someone calls me Jose, I

[36:58] hear her calling my name

[37:00] >> because she represents in my life divine

[37:02] mother.

[37:04] She was there when I was needing someone

[37:06] the most with that feminine, you know,

[37:09] doorway going back home.

[37:12] >> Yeah. Even though she was not my

[37:13] physical mother, she was my mother. As

[37:16] Dona Barbara is my mother and my birth

[37:18] mother, Mama Makoko is my mother. I was

[37:21] blessed to have three mothers in my life

[37:23] for different parts of life of my

[37:25] father.

[37:26] >> But they all love me and they all teach

[37:29] me things that they knew themselves.

[37:33] But every time I hear Jose, I'm

[37:36] remembering when I woke up in India. I

[37:39] was with my friend Drea in in the river

[37:42] of Ganji's river when I I I was looking

[37:46] in the eyes and all of a sudden Chivas

[37:50] Shakti that energy came through me so

[37:52] strong.

[37:54] In that moment, I knew that I had to let

[37:56] go of something that's been stopping me

[37:59] all my life from blossoming.

[38:02] and is the dream of machismo.

[38:07] The one that pretends the mask, the one

[38:09] that hides the beauty, the one that

[38:11] suppresses, the one that suppresses

[38:13] itself like a butcher butchering itself,

[38:18] you know, because the male energy is so

[38:20] powerful as well.

[38:23] It's a guardian.

[38:25] It's at service. He does everything for

[38:28] divine mother like I do for my mothers,

[38:31] my sisters,

[38:33] for myself

[38:35] serving the planet. One day I'm not

[38:38] going to be here and who cares the

[38:41] memories of Jose.

[38:43] I give Jose everything that makes him

[38:45] happy so I can do my work

[38:49] because Jose is just a character that

[38:50] I'm not anymore. That many people know

[38:53] me from Jose. They have the secondary

[38:56] characters invested in their dream and I

[38:59] communicate with them and we grow. Like

[39:02] sometimes we have friends from junior

[39:04] high, high school, the 20th and we have

[39:09] family members. Well, but we all grow

[39:11] and sometimes when we get together, we

[39:13] just talk about nostalgic moments, the

[39:15] past, which is beautiful, but we all

[39:17] have different futures now.

[39:20] Some of my beautiful family and friends

[39:22] have children and they are now like my

[39:25] nephew just turned 20 years old and it's

[39:28] beautiful but you know my brother has

[39:31] his own life and every time we get

[39:34] together when we tour it's like we're

[39:36] back in high school in that secondary

[39:38] character but we all have our own

[39:41] journey now. Doesn't mean we don't love

[39:44] each other. We love each other even

[39:45] more. But when we begin seeing how we

[39:50] have grown our own forest and I go, I

[39:52] identify that forest. I identify the

[39:54] forest. Like I I have my friends in

[39:56] Tijuana that I see them play the

[39:58] Astronav band and I see them play

[40:00] rehears. And it just makes me happy that

[40:03] they're doing what they love to do and

[40:05] it makes me happy when they tell me

[40:07] they're happy me doing what I love to

[40:09] do.

[40:11] And uh we don't hang out as much as we

[40:14] used to, but we're always connected

[40:15] because of the energy connection. It's

[40:18] supporting one another. And the

[40:21] beautiful thing is when when we come

[40:23] together and uh not only then with other

[40:26] people too, it's like we have never

[40:28] left. So we're a person that in the

[40:32] midst of a situation, we become the

[40:35] character. But having awareness that

[40:38] we're all of those characters is what I

[40:41] express myself that I live in the art of

[40:44] the house of dreams of Jose.

[40:46] And anytime I can create any character

[40:48] and give the same message because I'm

[40:51] the same.

[40:53] >> It's beautiful.

[40:55] >> It's life.

[40:56] >> Yeah, it is. Man, you're you're amazing.

[40:59] Oh, it's just a viewer because you're

[41:00] amazing and everyone who here is amazing

[41:03] and and to remember that is honoring

[41:05] their true power. Forget manifesting

[41:08] things.

[41:09] >> Forget, you know, giving people

[41:10] spiritual names. It's giving them the

[41:13] love and support and their true selves

[41:15] will show up sooner or later.

[41:20] There's something I want to say and it's

[41:21] more out of curiosity. I just want to

[41:23] hear myself say it.

[41:27] It's like you were talking about

[41:30] well I forget exactly but you were

[41:33] talking about you know being in a cage

[41:35] in relationships and so many times we

[41:38] make the relationship more important

[41:40] than our personal freedom. We're so

[41:43] afraid to evolve and grow in a

[41:45] relationship because the relationship

[41:47] becomes the most important thing. It's

[41:49] like this gilded thing that we have to

[41:51] preserve the relationship even if we're

[41:53] suffering

[41:55] and we stay in suffering and we work and

[41:58] we grind away to try and fix something

[42:03] without growing in that in that and

[42:05] giving oursel the freedom. And I know

[42:07] you know I went through a a relationship

[42:10] where I didn't want to leave the

[42:12] relationship because the relationship

[42:13] was so important to me but I was

[42:16] sacrificing myself for that

[42:18] relationship.

[42:19] And I remember that relationship ended

[42:21] and you're like, you're free. And I I

[42:24] felt it just really that freedom, like

[42:28] real freedom.

[42:30] And it really made me understand so much

[42:32] of my life because

[42:34] when I was a child, and we've talked

[42:36] about this before, but I knew that there

[42:38] was a part of me that was real. It was

[42:40] just truth. And it was a part of me that

[42:42] was my mind, the thinking mind. And I

[42:45] didn't know which one was real. the

[42:47] force I feel inside of me or the one

[42:49] that knows my name, my address and all

[42:51] and all that information.

[42:53] And I convinced myself that the mind was

[42:56] the truth.

[42:58] >> And I I pledged loyalty to all that

[43:02] knowledge inside my head. And I tried my

[43:05] best to take care of myself, to grow, to

[43:08] evolve, to be the best Aaron that I can

[43:10] be, believing that that was the truth.

[43:16] And then I realized at a certain point

[43:18] it's not that wasn't real.

[43:21] And I had to let go of the part of me

[43:25] that's always trying to control

[43:28] that's always trying to fix it to figure

[43:31] it out to take care of life when life is

[43:35] perfectly capable of taking care of

[43:37] itself.

[43:39] And when we were talking about your act

[43:42] of surrender, it's like in a way we have

[43:44] to die and let go of that need to

[43:47] control ourselves.

[43:50] And in the letting go of trying to

[43:52] control ourselves, we realize there's

[43:54] something else in control that's always

[43:57] been in control that we've been

[43:58] suppressing, that we've been pushing

[44:00] away because we thought we were

[44:02] responsible for taking care of oursel. I

[44:05] thought I was responsible.

[44:07] And it was that idea that I need to be

[44:09] in charge

[44:12] that was unknowingly suppressing the

[44:14] truth of what I am. And you you might

[44:18] call it machismo in your life, but in my

[44:21] life, it's not necessarily machismo.

[44:25] It's it's just everything I've learned

[44:27] from everybody. It's just the way the

[44:28] dream works. And yes, the dream is is

[44:32] sort of filled by that machismo energy.

[44:37] But in my mind it was just control.

[44:40] Trying to control

[44:42] uh trying to be in control. And at a

[44:45] certain point you just have to let go.

[44:47] >> Yes.

[44:49] To give up the control.

[44:51] >> And in giving up the control you realize

[44:53] there's something else that's always

[44:55] been there patiently waiting.

[44:59] And it's not like thank God. It's just

[45:00] like okay I'm ready. Come join me. Okay.

[45:05] >> And in that surrender, it's like, oh,

[45:09] finally, thank God.

[45:11] I can feel that freedom. Just to be,

[45:15] like you said, energy, to be life, to

[45:18] feel life. And then from there, you know

[45:20] what you like, you know what you don't

[45:21] like, you know what you are attracted

[45:24] to, you know what you're not attracted

[45:25] to. And like you said so beautifully,

[45:27] you can go taste the dream and not get

[45:29] trapped in that dream anymore. Taste it.

[45:32] If you don't like it, you walk away.

[45:34] It's not personal.

[45:36] >> And and that's the power of love, of

[45:37] unconditional love. You let dreams be

[45:41] and unconditional love for yourself,

[45:42] knowing that, you know, having that

[45:44] experience, the life could have been

[45:46] over, but it continues.

[45:48] >> And sometimes we think that we're the

[45:50] person of importance that we have to be

[45:52] the ones to do this. But when we die,

[45:56] >> right,

[45:56] >> life will continue. Someone is going to

[45:58] take our place. So when we change

[46:01] dreams, we let that go of the need that

[46:04] we think that we are,

[46:06] >> you know, the ones chosen ones

[46:08] >> like wanting to be remembered.

[46:09] >> Exactly. But when you resurrect your

[46:11] dream, that's the purpose that you are

[46:14] there and learn everything you needed to

[46:16] learn. Like I wanted to go to India and

[46:19] to Tatiwakan and in my meditation says

[46:21] no, you take these seats and tour. you

[46:23] haven't toured like in more than 10

[46:25] years like this or more than that before

[46:29] I wrote before I wrote books before the

[46:31] book I used to tour like this so I'm

[46:34] going back to the basics and the

[46:37] beautiful thing it is about you know

[46:40] seeing yourself in situations

[46:42] >> like being open and without thinking

[46:45] you're just open and all of a sudden

[46:46] life happens like the other day I was

[46:48] watching a movie called city of angels

[46:50] is with Nicholas Cage and he's like an

[46:52] angel service and you know he fell in

[46:54] love and but he had a mission to be an

[46:56] angel and then at the end of the movie

[47:00] sorry to spoil it to whoever's you know

[47:01] listening but um at the end of the movie

[47:04] he decided to be human and he jumped

[47:07] into the ocean for the first time in a

[47:09] long long time and all the angels that

[47:14] were in the rooftop of Los Angeles

[47:15] looking at the sky they looked down at

[47:18] these angels that free himself from the

[47:21] service that they were taught to be.

[47:25] >> How many times do you feel you've done

[47:26] that in your life?

[47:27] >> Many times. And like I was the little

[47:30] bird again putting myself in the cage.

[47:32] Why? I was domesticated. It's like let's

[47:34] say a person that's been married for

[47:36] years and is not the person that was in

[47:39] control. It's the person that was in the

[47:40] cage. The one who kept them in the cage

[47:43] died.

[47:45] Now that person is looking for someone

[47:47] else

[47:48] >> to put him in the cage or put her in a

[47:51] cage because that's what they know.

[47:54] But when you realize you're not meant

[47:56] for a cage anymore because that can go

[47:58] in any moment. Especially when I lost my

[48:00] eyesight, I begin to just

[48:04] just enjoy everyone's eyes because

[48:07] before I used to look down on the floor,

[48:09] >> but when I got my eyesight back is when

[48:12] I begin looking into people's eyes and

[48:14] many people are uncomfortable with that

[48:16] because it's a real intimate connection,

[48:18] but it's normal. Why did we make it, you

[48:22] know, something bad? is because we felt

[48:25] we're less than.

[48:28] The moment that we begin honoring

[48:29] oursel, we're divine mother. We deserve

[48:32] to drink from the same cup of life that

[48:34] everybody else does.

[48:36] We deserve the beautiful life as well

[48:39] and forget about the past life or the

[48:40] future life. No, we have this life only.

[48:45] We really have this life

[48:47] for me. There's no other life. And it's

[48:50] the dream of the time of Gayo Jose

[48:56] Don Jose and Jose

[48:59] are different times like it's a time of

[49:02] bidomania

[49:04] it's a time of Mosart it's a time of

[49:08] Rome

[49:09] it's a time of ancient Egypt all of

[49:11] those are gone but it made such an

[49:15] impact of the way of life that they made

[49:18] ripples of wisdom them that they're

[49:20] still here because of the way they see

[49:23] life

[49:25] >> and with this humanity basis like uh

[49:28] Boom Bour said in one interview that he

[49:30] did he's one of my favorite musicians AI

[49:33] needs the artist AI needs the human to

[49:37] document their life so it can be put

[49:40] into the pool of automatic creation of a

[49:44] robotic and computer things but without

[49:46] the human experience that other thing

[49:49] cannot be. Why? Because the human

[49:51] created that.

[49:54] And this is the thing. We humans create

[49:57] such beauty and other humans put it down

[50:00] because they don't see the beautiful

[50:01] thing about it. I love music. I have to

[50:03] say this. And Bjork is another one of my

[50:06] favorite musicians. And she said one

[50:08] time when people were putting down

[50:09] electronical

[50:11] um instruments, computers and and

[50:14] keyboards when they were putting it

[50:15] down, he says, you know, these people

[50:18] are just talking back because, you know,

[50:20] they're comfortable in a certain way.

[50:22] They don't expand. But a computer, a

[50:24] keyboard, sound effects, they need a

[50:27] human vibration spirit to give them life

[50:30] because it is an extension of the art.

[50:33] Now, let's say I would just be shaman

[50:35] and not do anything else. I will not

[50:37] touch Hinduism or Christianity or any

[50:39] other tradition is self-importance.

[50:43] It's arrogant. It's disrespectful and

[50:47] it's like any other cult thinking that

[50:50] they're the chosen one and they have

[50:51] following. The truth is that all of that

[50:54] was invented to tackle the addiction of

[50:56] suffering. But at one point somebody saw

[50:58] the power in it that they corrupted to

[51:01] manipulate humanity

[51:04] >> because they manipulate themselves.

[51:06] Don't mean we no longer manipulate

[51:08] oursel or want to manipulate humanity.

[51:10] We're free and we're authentic

[51:14] because let's say someone gives us, you

[51:17] know, the dream of hell

[51:20] and we live in hell until we realize,

[51:22] hey, this is not my dream. Someone gave

[51:24] me this dream. I go back to the dream

[51:26] master. Here I give you the keys of

[51:29] hell. Hey, but you're the ruler of hell.

[51:32] Not anymore. I woke up. You, this is

[51:34] your creation. You gave it to me.

[51:37] Drop them if you don't take them. And

[51:39] you walk your dream.

[51:42] And I tell you, when you do that, you

[51:45] will meet people who support you, who

[51:46] admire you, who adore you, who support

[51:48] you, who really see you for who you are.

[51:52] And it's just life. a clean mirror so

[51:54] they can see themsel and feel

[51:56] comfortable. That's why I love animals

[51:59] because I mean them no harm. I can

[52:02] connect with them. Speak their own

[52:04] language and it's not Spanish or English

[52:07] is vibrational sounds. I begin mimicking

[52:10] them. But I have a feeling like creating

[52:13] music and singing. When you sing and

[52:15] create music or speaking words, it's a

[52:17] feeling behind it. the air that gives

[52:21] the instrument the flute or the

[52:23] harmonian life

[52:25] that we know what energy we're putting

[52:27] into it. That's the difference.

[52:30] And that's why, you know, when we met

[52:34] and uh we knew the vibration more than

[52:36] the words. We knew that we were good

[52:39] people and we met Louis is good people.

[52:41] Carla, you know, you marrying my cousin

[52:44] Carla and having a little baby with her

[52:46] is just beautiful because you two are

[52:48] the fre frequency of peaceful kind

[52:51] people and with a met and the band

[52:53] coming together it's it's just you know

[52:57] many people talk about what's the point

[52:58] of a band to make gold records to make

[53:00] this. No, for me, we already make it.

[53:03] It's having a friendship that supports

[53:05] one another, that inspires one another,

[53:08] that when you're tired, like I was, you

[53:10] know, when I arrived to Los Angeles last

[53:12] week, I didn't I hardly slept, but when

[53:14] I arrived, I was super tired. Even my

[53:15] eyes were red, you know. But when we got

[53:18] together, I got such happiness that we I

[53:21] arrived around 10:00 at Louis's house,

[53:23] and we played music until 3:00 in the

[53:25] morning because it was just magic. I was

[53:29] enjoying life like it's the last moment.

[53:33] If it was the last thing that I will

[53:34] ever do, well, I lived it good. But the

[53:36] beautiful thing is the next day I woke

[53:38] up and I rested. Thank God.

[53:41] >> But you know, I did what I wanted to do

[53:43] in that moment.

[53:46] >> It's a beautiful thing about just being

[53:48] an artist in general.

[53:50] And like you say, um, like you said,

[53:53] imagine today's your last day. What

[53:54] would you do with that day? And it

[53:55] really puts things into perspective.

[53:58] Don't waste your time every single day.

[54:01] And there's something beautiful about

[54:04] um just the, you know, you say

[54:08] friendship

[54:10] and

[54:12] the the creation of art, like the

[54:15] feeling of creating art is so

[54:17] satisfying. The sensation, like you

[54:20] said, you put the air into the

[54:21] instrument. It's like whatever you're

[54:22] doing, whether you're painting, whether

[54:24] you're playing music, whether you're

[54:26] speaking, it's like there's some force

[54:28] that's passing through you. And it feels

[54:31] so exhilarating to express yourself. And

[54:34] when you do that with other people,

[54:36] simultaneously, you're you're

[54:38] experiencing other people expressing

[54:39] themsel while you're expressing

[54:41] yourself. It's magic. It's magic to feel

[54:44] that sense of freedom with friends.

[54:46] There's nothing like it.

[54:47] >> Yes.

[54:48] >> And you know, Yes. You know, we can we

[54:52] can put our attention on making an album

[54:54] or making a work of art or what's this

[54:56] painting going to look like when it's

[54:57] over. It doesn't matter. What matters is

[55:00] the experience of creating it.

[55:02] >> Yes.

[55:02] >> And then when it's finished,

[55:05] you can feel all the love that went into

[55:08] the creation of a painting and creation

[55:10] creation of a song. You think about

[55:13] being on stage and and talking. You feel

[55:15] about meeting a woman for the first time

[55:17] and what that first kiss feels like.

[55:20] It's not the thing, it's the experience

[55:24] of the magic of creation that's the most

[55:28] amazing part

[55:29] >> of art. And so us getting together and

[55:33] just creating whatever

[55:36] amazing thing is is being birthed.

[55:40] It's the experience of it that's it's

[55:42] like my favorite part is like you said

[55:44] just the feeling of being around each

[55:46] other

[55:47] >> and seeing the smile on your face on

[55:49] Louis's face on Ahmed's face like the

[55:52] like the the Cheshshire grin of just

[55:54] like this is amazing this feels so good

[55:57] and it's like being a child and being so

[56:01] excited to be free to paint with words

[56:05] or paint with sound or paint with actual

[56:08] paint whatever it

[56:10] It's the expression to not be afraid

[56:13] just to express yourself in whatever

[56:15] way. And that's I think Luis was talking

[56:17] about this too,

[56:19] what it feels like to have friends that

[56:21] just let you

[56:23] >> be free to be yourself. And I don't want

[56:25] to speak for Luis because he can say it

[56:27] in his own way, but for me

[56:30] to feel friends that give you the

[56:32] permission just to be yourself, then it

[56:36] invites you. Any resistance you feel you

[56:38] know is you.

[56:39] >> If there's any resistance you know it's

[56:41] not from our friends it's from inside.

[56:44] >> And then it's like okay how do you let

[56:46] go of this resistance and then you just

[56:48] start jumping and dancing or playing or

[56:51] just you just let go and all of a sudden

[56:54] >> you feel the freedom to like be that

[56:57] child.

[56:57] >> Yes.

[56:58] >> You know

[56:58] >> and and and in that moment we become a

[57:00] tribe

[57:01] >> because it's a safety zone. It's a tribe

[57:04] and something beautiful about

[57:06] experiences

[57:07] especially like sometimes we wait for

[57:09] one experience like you said like you

[57:11] taught me you know if that experience

[57:13] just happens one night

[57:15] something you've been waiting for just

[57:16] happens one night and the next day it's

[57:19] over you have that one night you have

[57:22] that one day that you were blessed by

[57:24] life

[57:25] >> that life blessed you to have that

[57:27] moment of life

[57:29] now you can go on forward

[57:31] >> because nothing is forever ever nothing

[57:34] belongs to us. But just have that

[57:36] connection inspire our hearts to go even

[57:39] deeper following our inspiration

[57:42] and we will meet many characters in our

[57:45] life that they build our heart that help

[57:49] us build our heart. Like I say right now

[57:52] in these days I've been like almost five

[57:54] years single since you know I I got

[57:56] divorced and I'm not looking for anybody

[57:59] but I can sincerely say that my puppy

[58:02] Yogi got the best version of myself

[58:05] because I feel the best version of

[58:07] myself right now and I really don't need

[58:09] anybody.

[58:11] I'm content.

[58:13] And in saying this, knowing that love

[58:19] is not about having somebody

[58:22] or you know or group of friends or

[58:25] anything. Love is really an inside

[58:29] source that begins opening up you and

[58:34] you become a garden and then you attract

[58:38] other gardens and you live in harmony.

[58:40] If it's friendship, peacefulness, if

[58:43] it's relationships, whatever it is, but

[58:45] you begin respecting that everybody has

[58:48] their own dream.

[58:50] And the beautiful thing it is when the

[58:52] moment happens, it's going to happen. If

[58:54] I start planning the relationship that

[58:56] I'm going to have right now, I'm not

[58:58] going to look at the person that I'm

[59:00] going to be in a relationship with next

[59:02] because I'm expecting someone.

[59:05] I'm already controlling the someone that

[59:06] I haven't met.

[59:10] But when you are open, you meet

[59:14] authenticity,

[59:16] you know, like a group of friends, it's

[59:18] magical.

[59:20] And you know, I can I can't wait for

[59:22] next year because next year,

[59:26] you know, I'm not saying this. I I think

[59:29] I'm stepping ahead of myself, but uh I

[59:32] know we're going to do something magical

[59:33] and share this music that we have to

[59:36] vision with the world.

[59:37] >> Yeah. because it's it's in the womb.

[59:41] >> Well, yeah. It's not something we want

[59:43] to rush either. It's something that

[59:45] >> we're just taking our time, which is the

[59:47] most beautiful thing about it. So many

[59:49] times

[59:50] >> we want to like jump into something

[59:51] right away and just go for it and go for

[59:53] it and go for it. But I think there's

[59:55] something to be said about really

[59:58] savoring and and doing something

[1:00:02] um and taking our time.

[1:00:05] And uh I know my little boy is calling

[1:00:07] me, but

[1:00:08] >> you know something we've we've talked

[1:00:11] about this a couple times, but you

[1:00:13] you've mentioned

[1:00:15] the practice of living today like it's

[1:00:18] the last day.

[1:00:20] And many times it becomes like a

[1:00:23] conceptual thing until it becomes

[1:00:26] experiential where you really say,

[1:00:28] "Okay, I'm what if today is your last

[1:00:31] day?" And you really start to feel it

[1:00:33] like, "Oh, wow. Um, this could be my

[1:00:37] last day. Do I really want to be doing

[1:00:40] like spending my energy this way?" And

[1:00:43] you start to prioritize. Oh, wow. I want

[1:00:45] to spend my time with my boy.

[1:00:47] >> Yes.

[1:00:48] >> In in such a a special way to really

[1:00:52] give him, like you said, the best of

[1:00:54] myself. To give my wife Carla the best

[1:00:57] of myself. to give my dad, my mom, my

[1:01:00] sisters, my friends, the world, the best

[1:01:03] of myself today. And if I wake up

[1:01:05] tomorrow, it just continues. But why

[1:01:08] waste a single moment

[1:01:11] uh giving like creating something that

[1:01:15] doesn't feel genuine or sincere? Why why

[1:01:17] pretend? Why lie? Why

[1:01:20] >> uh

[1:01:21] why put energy creating something that

[1:01:23] we don't even want that we're going to

[1:01:26] have to change our mind anyway? create

[1:01:28] something that we know we're going to

[1:01:30] love doing. Because when we put love and

[1:01:33] passion and inspiration to what we're

[1:01:35] creating today, then that just builds

[1:01:38] and tomorrow we wake up excited to

[1:01:39] continue.

[1:01:40] >> Yes.

[1:01:40] >> Excited to continue. And it's such a

[1:01:42] beautiful way of looking at life and

[1:01:45] really focuses attention on things that

[1:01:48] aren't working. And instead of like

[1:01:50] sweeping it under a rug or being

[1:01:51] resistant, it's like, okay, if I died

[1:01:54] today, this is not going to be a problem

[1:01:56] tomorrow because I won't exist. So why

[1:01:59] be afraid to try and transform it today?

[1:02:02] And you know this there's something

[1:02:03] powerful about um living like it's your

[1:02:06] last day because I remember at the

[1:02:09] beginning I'm doing this this training.

[1:02:11] I'm like oh yeah sure you know like you

[1:02:14] know you know yeah sure but the more I

[1:02:16] started doing it I started beify how I

[1:02:18] wasted my time.

[1:02:19] >> I have no tolerance to talk drama

[1:02:22] poisonous things debate. I have no time

[1:02:25] for that. I just want to enjoy every

[1:02:26] moment that is powerful

[1:02:30] in inspiration to create to live to

[1:02:33] experience and there's fear and there's

[1:02:38] nervous systems and when I feel like

[1:02:41] nervous system that it comes into little

[1:02:44] fear I'm feeling something that I need

[1:02:46] to walk above water that I need to walk

[1:02:49] above that emotion because water for me

[1:02:51] is emotion and when I walk through that

[1:02:53] emotion I become being stronger to

[1:02:55] honoring that part of me that is serves

[1:02:58] divine mother

[1:02:59] >> and knowing that everything is perfect

[1:03:01] and especially when I have experience

[1:03:04] with friends family I say okay I can um

[1:03:08] I can talk and I can you know share and

[1:03:12] we're in communication we're in

[1:03:13] agreement I'm not going to hold

[1:03:15] something you know that needs to be

[1:03:17] talked to and this is something that I

[1:03:19] really admire you and my cousin Carla

[1:03:23] you know when when you both were ready

[1:03:25] to have a child. You were in Tiwakan and

[1:03:27] I always, you know, smile about this.

[1:03:30] You went to the doctor to see, you know,

[1:03:32] to prepare and you were already

[1:03:34] pregnant, you know, and that's the

[1:03:36] beautiful thing and sometimes, you know,

[1:03:38] we're having a beautiful conversation

[1:03:40] right now, but life happens. We've seen

[1:03:42] the signals and for me the signals that

[1:03:45] we had a beautiful conversation right

[1:03:46] now. I'm so grateful. But my nephew is

[1:03:50] calling

[1:03:51] >> and for his little world, he means the

[1:03:53] world when you answer.

[1:03:55] >> Yeah. So

[1:03:56] >> he basically said, "I really miss you."

[1:03:59] >> He said, "Uh, I miss you, daddy."

[1:04:02] >> So I'll give him a call and see how he's

[1:04:04] doing.

[1:04:05] >> You know, it's always a pleasure to talk

[1:04:06] to you. I mean,

[1:04:07] >> same, brother.

[1:04:08] >> We do this all the time, like with

[1:04:09] coffee or with uh, you know, other

[1:04:11] things, but it's

[1:04:13] >> it's a pleasure to be able to share it.

[1:04:15] Well, it's an honor to be an ally and

[1:04:18] it's honor to serve the same boss

[1:04:20] >> and it's an honor to create and to have

[1:04:23] this beautiful friendship

[1:04:24] >> and you know

[1:04:26] >> likewise

[1:04:26] >> it's it's part of art. You find your,

[1:04:30] you know, your tribe and you just go

[1:04:33] forward and

[1:04:34] >> Yeah.

[1:04:34] >> And I am so excited for the love and

[1:04:37] wisdom we're going to share in the house

[1:04:40] of the art of dreams tour.

[1:04:42] >> Thank you, brother, for

[1:04:43] >> you got it. Thank you.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

In Toltec tradition, the house refers to the physical body, and the art of dreams refers to the dreaming mind—the realm of imagination and creative potential where each person generates their reality. The teaching is that every human being is a house containing a gallery of art.
Jose teaches that ceremonies—whether shamanic, psychological, or religious—are tools to identify problems, but they are not sufficient for lasting change. The real work happens in private, at home, through daily honesty and integrity. Without this follow-through, ceremony becomes just another form of escape.
Music is vibration that bypasses the conceptual mind and speaks directly to the nervous system and felt body. Combined with word, it creates art—and art is what survives and carries medicine forward through time in a way that lectures or books alone cannot.
This teaching warns against letting inspiration and creative impulse be strangled by doubt, perfectionism, or anxiety. When an idea or calling arrives, honor it in action without letting obsession or self-doubt prevent you from moving forward.
Jose observes that people often use spiritual identity—whether as a shaman, swami, or healer—as a new hiding place rather than a genuine practice. He emphasizes that the deeper illusions affect all practitioners regardless of credentials, and the antidote is continuous honesty and willingness to do the inner work day after day.
Seeds are the wisdom and practices inherited from elders and ancestors through training. Jose's teaching is that once you have received these seeds from teachers in various traditions, your responsibility is to plant them in your own ground and allow them to grow in forms that may look entirely different from their origin.
Rather than presenting Toltec wisdom as fixed doctrine, Jose frames it as a living, artistic practice that bridges shamanic training with music, storytelling, and community presence. The focus is on inspiring listeners to recognize themselves as creative practitioners, not passive students.
