Las Vegas Center for Spiritual Living — Las Vegas, United States

A Science of Mind spiritual community in northwest Las Vegas, Nevada

The Las Vegas Center for Spiritual Living holds its gatherings in a business park on North Rancho Drive, in the middle of the complex by the circle, south of Craig Road. It is not a cathedral or a retreat on a hillside. It is a working community in the northwest of the city, led by co-senior ministers Rev. Staci Hylton and Rev. Cheryl Bell, whom the Center says each bring a distinct style to Sunday. The teaching is Science of Mind, which the Center's pages trace to Ernest Holmes and a 1927 founding of the philosophy. The Center calls itself an open-at-the-top organization. Its idea is that there is a truth but not the only truth, so any belief can be a pathway to God. There is no dogma or creed, membership is a choice, and tithing is optional. The Center says it is not affiliated with Christian Science or Scientology. For inspiration it draws on the Bible, the Science of Mind Textbook, other sacred writings and current popular books. Sunday service starts at 9:30 a.m. and includes a prayer for world peace and unity, music and a message from one of the Center's spiritual leaders. Youth, tween and teen programs run alongside, and the service is also streamed on Facebook and YouTube. The Center also keeps a Ministry of Prayer and teaches affirmative prayer, in which a person first acknowledges the power of Spirit within. The class calendar shows the range of the place. Foundations of the Science of Mind is a ten-week entry course built on the Holmes textbook, followed by deeper study such as The Creative Process, drawing on Thomas Troward, and This Thing Called You. La Metafisica offers introductory Science of Mind to the Spanish-speaking community on Tuesday evenings for a love offering. Past offerings have included Zumba and Zumba Gold, tai chi, altar making, knitting and crochet, a dream-work class and a forgiveness workshop. Community life includes holiday caroling at senior assisted living facilities and an annual fall picnic.
